Zak Chappell is an excellent all-rounder who graduated from Leicestershire’s Academy. The tall seam bowler has shown great promise in his Leicestershire career to date after signing his first professional deal ahead of the 2015 campaign.
The 21-year-old had a memorable first-class debut for Leicestershire in the final Specsavers County Championship match of the 2015 season at Derbyshire. The teenager is known for fast bowling but also demonstrated his considerable ability with the bat at the 3aaa County Ground.
Chappell went agonisingly close to making a century, scoring 96 as part of late order partnerships with Rob Taylor and Ollie Freckingham. He also dismissed opener Ben Slater in both innings on an encouraging first game in the green and gold.
Promising all-rounder Chappell made further progress in 2017. Featuring in seven first-class fixtures in 2017, Chappell made a big impression with both bat and ball.
Chappell was also an integral part of the Foxes side that almost qualified for the Royal London One-Day Cup play-offs.
The all-rounder hit a fifty in each competition, his unbeaten 59 against Durham helped push the Foxes to a competitive score and his 66 against Worcestershire were further signs of his growing maturity as an all-rounder as he was excellent when facing spinner Ravi Ashwin.
Chappell also took career-best bowling figures against Derbyshire with 4-108 on a wicket that greatly favoured the batsmen.
Chappell received his cricketing education at Stamford School where he worked alongside former Kent and England seamer Dean Headley.
The youngster was prolific with bat and ball during his time at Stamford Town CC and has also represented Market Harborough CC, where he topped the club's bowling averages after taking a seven-for in his first game in 2014.
