A tall, accurate seam bowler who shapes the ball away, Alex Wyatt continues to develop nicely at Grace Road.
Wyatt picked up 13 first-class wickets in four appearances in 2011, including the prized scalp of Andrew Strauss in the final game of the year.
The bowler also did well in List A games and in the Second XI and that followed on from promising performances earlier in his Leicestershire career.
Wyatt made a big impression in 2009. The bowler had a great first-class debut against West Indies by dismissing Ramnaresh Sarwan, the batsman England could not seem to remove during their last tour to the Caribbean.
He also showed up well during his only Championship appearance against Gloucestershire at Bristol and was brilliant on t20 debut at the Riverside.
Not fazed by Durham Dynamos’ batting line-up which comprised many international batsmen, Wyatt took 3-14 from four overs – including a maiden – and took the scalps of current England player Paul Collingwood and former Australia ODI batsman Michael di Venuto.
Unfortunately, injury curtailed that season just when it was taking off and also caused problems in 2010. Wyatt steered clear of injuries last term and he will be looking to continue to make progress in 2012.
