Josh Cobb made a big impact in one-day cricket in 2011 and that was underlined by his man-of-the-match performance against Somerset in the Friends Life t20 final.

It was his hard-hitting batting that generally caught the eye but Cobb is also a skilful off-spin bowler and his haul of 4-22, along with Claude Henderson’s fine spell, went a long way to securing victory at Edgbaston.

Cobb was Leicestershire’s leading List A scorer with 485 runs and his FL t20 total of 374 was bettered only by opening colleague Andrew McDonald. Cobb had a terrific strike-rate of 156.48 throughout the FL t20 competition.

His 91* against Northants was a List A best while the t20 half-century against Durham was the fastest on record by a Fox; it came from just 21 deliveries. Cobb's fine fielding in the deep is also important to the team; he is very much a three-dimensional cricketer.

Cobb made his first-class debut shortly after the age of 17. He became the County’s youngest centurion in 2008, making a majestic unbeaten 148 against Middlesex at Lord’s.

The teenager shared a 270-run stand with HD Ackerman at the home of cricket, which showed instant progression from promising knocks against both Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.

Cobb continued that good form by topping the club’s Championship averages, adding a further two half-centuries along the way in a most promising season after finishing his studies.

A former student of Oakham School, Cobb made his second-XI debut in 2006, and also represented the club’s academy against Victoria Emerging Players in 2007, scoring an unbeaten 102.

After a successful 2008 campaign with County, Cobb gained his first international recognition by being selected to tour South Africa with England under 19s, where he came second in the one-day averages at an excellent 42.
