Warwickshire Second XI (2 pts) 270-7 (Javid 118*, James 3-42) beat Leicestershire Second XI (0 pts) 269-7 (New 120*) by three wickets

Tom New hit 120 but Leicestershire Second XI lost to their Warwickshire counterparts in the SET at Stratford-upon-Avon.

County posted 269-7 from their allotted overs, with New continuing his recent fine form by top-scoring.

Greg Smith, making a welcome return from injury, chipped in with 51 as the duo shared 139 for the second wicket.

Tom Flowers added a quickfire unbeaten 35 as the team made a decent total.

Then, when Warks slumped to 21-3 and then 136-7, the victory looked as though it was heading home with Leics.

However, Ateeq Javid (118*) and Naqaash Tahir (58*) guided the hosts home with eleven balls to spare.

The duo put on an undefeated 134 for the eighth wicket, which meant County had suffered their second defeat in the format this season to go along with a win and a tie.

James was the pick of the attack with 3-42, while Kieron Garside also took two wickets.

However, on a positive note, it was good to see Smith take to the field again.

The youngster suffered a broken thumb earlier this summer, but made a half-century for his club side Kibworth at the weekend and followed that up with another at Stratford.
