No play at Canterbury

Date: Tuesday 15 September 2009

Day One Report: There was no play on the first day of the Championship match between Kent and Leicestershire at a sodden Canterbury.

The initial decision by umpires Jeff Evans and Peter Hartley was that there would be no play before lunch at the St Lawrence ground, but it was apparent at an early stage that there would be a struggle to get play on.

That proved to be the case, with the day's play abandoned during the afternoon.

It was frustrating for both sides, who harbour different ambitions from this game.

Kent want to wrap up the title after clinching promotion already, while County know that a win could move them up the Championship table considerably.
