Recruitment and Selection Policy 2009 Onwards

Leicestershire County Cricket Club Recruitment and Selection Policy 2009 and beyond

  • Leicestershire will play a minimum of 8 English qualified players and a maximum of 3 Non-Qualified players during the 2009 season in all forms of cricket. We will use senior role model cricketers HD Ackerman, Boeta Dippenaar and Claude Henderson to support our young players' development.

  • We aim to have six local players under the age of 26 who have been through our Leicestershire age group, Sub Academy/ Emerging Players Programme/ Academy representing the club during 2010. As well as a minimum of 8 English qualified cricketers in all forms of the game. A sustainable pipeline of young local cricket talent to follow into the county side.

  • Future Squad Size will be based on maximum of 18 full time contracted players.

  • Leicestershire have a clear policy that we will only employ in full time positions ECB Level III qualified coaches working towards Level IV, this is our minimum criteria.

  • Leicestershire will employ English coaches and will only use foreign coaches when an exhaustive search indicates that the level of expertise required, is not available in the UK.

  • Leicestershire currently employ four Level IV ECB qualified coaches, all ex-First Class players.

  • We use ex-First Class players, Trevor Ward, Carl Crowe, Nick Cook and Phillip De Freitas to help coach and deliver at county age group sessions. Our written winter programmes are delivered by our Senior and Level IV Coaches.

  • Our Talent ID programme starts from 9 years of age.

The systems that Leicestershire use to develop young local cricketers have provided the England age group squads with 5 local players since July 2008.

They all started at Leicestershire as 11 year olds. This system also produced Stuart Broad, the England International Cricketer.

Current Leicestershire first team cricketers Matt Boyce, Sam Cliff, and Tom New also graduated via our system.
