Seconds edged out in Trophy

Date: Wednesday 27 April 2011

Matthew Boyce and Will Jones made half-centuries but Leicestershire Second XI lost to Warwickshire by 30 runs in the opening Second Eleven Trophy game at Kings Heath CC.

Warwickshire won the toss at Kings Heath and elected to bat in the revamped 40-over format, where the teams wore white clothing and played with a pink ball.

The Bears were soon in trouble at 64-4 but recovered thanks to good innings from Jonathan Webb (92) and Richard Johnson (82*). That took the home side up to 256-6 and Alex Wyatt finished with 3-44.

In reply, Leicestershire's openers Boyce and Jones played well but the team fell short as off-spinner Maurice Holmes, who bowled against the first team for Loughborough MCCU last week, took 3-29. County closed their innings on 226-7.
