The left arm seamer enjoyed an excellent Twenty20 campaign in 2009 and also made progress in the first-class arena, including taking his maiden first-class five-for against Surrey.
Harry Gurney was excellent in T20, delivering a number of pacy opening bursts which pinned batsmen onto the back foot. He bowled exceptionally well in front of the television cameras against Lancashire as one of a number of excellent performances.
Gurney also batted well on occasions, and shared important stands with James Taylor and AJ Harris in the Championship games against Essex and Middlesex.
The partnership with Taylor helped the youngster move from the 40s to 88, while the latter stand with Harris gave Leicestershire the crucial momentum which helped the team to win their first championship match of the season.
Gurney made his first-class debut in 2007 and has also played for the second XI, has also represented Loughborough Town in club cricket and played for Leeds Bradford University.
Indeed, he caught the eye with a fine display for his University side at the start of 2008, when he dismissed England captain Michael Vaughan and former South Africa Jacques Rudolph at Headingley on his way to a return of 3-116 off 31 overs, despite the team going for 500.
Left the Club at the end of the 2008 season without making a first-class appearance during that particular campaign, but returned in the pre-season of 2009 and earned a contract by forcing his way into the side.
2010 is a big year for the left armer, who offers useful variation and balance to the attack. Gurney will hope to continue the good work of ’09 and keep his place in the side in all forms of the game.
