Ben Raine is a powerful left-handed batsman who also bowls lively medium pace. Raine made a good impression in the Second XI throughout 2013, including scoring a half-century against his former employers Durham at Darlington CC, and did not disappoint when given his first team opportunity.

The all-rounder was given his first-class debut at Glamorgan, where he picked up four wickets. Raine then made a career-best 72 at LV=CC Champions Lancashire and also bowled tidily in his two List A appearances at Glamorgan and Middlesex.

Raine previously made two appearances in the Durham first team, one first-class fixture and one List A game. Both of those came in 2011, with a first-class bow given against Sri Lanka A at the Riverside.

His List A debut came against Warwickshire Bears at Edgbaston earlier that summer, the all-rounder not getting a bat or bowl in a high-scoring affair. He did, however, take a catch to dismiss Jim Troughton.
