Slow left arm spinner Claude Henderson enjoyed a successful testimonial year in 2011. As well as working hard on the event, Henderson was joint leading wicket-taker in the Championship and again worked his magic in the Friends Life t20 winning campaign.
His four-over spell against Somerset in the final came at a cost of just 11 runs and that was a key contribution alongside Josh Cobb’s 4-22. Henderson also batted well throughout 2011 and his performances earnt him a new contract at the end of the season.
The spinner launched his testimonial at the King Power Stadium on the opening day of the season and he had a number of successful events throughout the season.
Henderson also works as spin bowling coach at the Club, so his contribution to cricket at Leicestershire therefore extends well beyond the boundary fence. He will have been pleased to see Jigar Naik performing so well after mentoring the off-spinner in recent years.
Henderson built on an excellent 2010 season, where he took 56 LV=County Championship wickets. His know-how is massively important to the dressing room and his presence was recognised in being named Players’ Player of the year.
The spinner is a model of consistency on the field and is often the first bowler turned to in the one-day arena when the team needs to stem the run rate.
Henderson has been a key figure in Leicestershire’s three t20 cup triumphs and his appearance in the Nokia Champions League T20 followed a previous appearance in 2009 with Cape Cobras. On that occasion, he helped the team qualify for the semi-final.
The former South Africa test player has provided batting highlights in his time at Leicestershire. His most memorable innings came at Cheltenham in 2006, where Henderson trailblazed away to clinch a famous run-chase.
Henderson also batted very well in a t20 match at Northamptonshire in 2010 to ensure the team got up to a defendable total. His career-best tally of 32 came from just 14 deliveries.
