Jacques du Toit was a key member of the Leicestershire Foxes Friends Life t20 winning side in 2011.
du Toit was an ever-present in the team and made an important contribution in the famous victory against Derbyshire. du Toit’s partnership with James Taylor was one that will long live in the memory of Leicestershire supporters.
du Toit had an excellent first-class season in 2010. The batsman scored 899 runs in 20 innings, including 154 against Cambridge MCCU.
He then flourished in the Championship. du Toit made an excellent hundred against Surrey in a thrilling run chase where Leicestershire just came up short and ended the season batting at three after a string of impressive performances.
The hard-hitting batsman also played well in CB40 and started in style with 141 against Nottinghamshire Outlaws. du Toit also opened to good effect in t20 cricket and his contributions were recognised by fans, who named him Supporters’ Player of the Year.
du Toit is also an athletic fielder and decent medium pace bowler. He broke into the first team in 2008 after playing in the East Anglian leagues and Second XI for a number of seasons.
His calm yet aggressive manner at the wicket was critical in helping the Foxes win a nervejangling Twenty20 game at Durham Dynamos in 2009. du Toit hit Paul Collingwood for a six and a four off the final two balls to clinch the seven runs required to win.
du Toit also batted well in one of only two Championship appearances he made in 2008, scoring a superb unbeaten century as part of the unbroken 230-run stand which saw Taylor become the club’s youngest double-centurion.
