Highlights of Career - Making 291 against England in a series where he scored 626 runs in six innings

Ramnaresh Sarwan continues to be a big influence in the Leicestershire CCC dressing room and it was a huge shame that his appearances were restricted to the first half of the 2013 season.

Now the Club’s four-day captain, Sarwan made 255 runs in his eight first-class innings in 2013. International and WI domestic commitments were then followed by an injury that meant Sarwan was not able to return for the final few matches of the campaign.

The batsman scored four centuries for Leicestershire in his first full season and would surely have scored 1,000 first-class runs had injury not taken away that opportunity.

Sarwan is an experienced, aesthetically pleasing batsman and Leicestershire followers have seen why he averages more than 40 in both tests and ODIs for the West Indies.

Sarwan always has plenty of time at the crease and loves smashing the ball through the off-side when bowlers drop short or overpitch.

The batsman made an unbeaten 84 against Pakistan on test debut and then topped the averages on the West Indies tour to England in 2000. Sarwan made the first of 15 test centuries against Bangladesh and has a best score of 291 against England during a prolific series in 2009.

The middle order player posted consecutive scores of 107, 94, 106 and 291 (total of 598 runs) during West Indies’ 1-0 win in the five match series. At the time, that huge score equalled Sir Vivian Richards’ West Indies record and Sarwan ended the series with 626 runs from six innings at a brilliant average of 104.33.

Sarwan has played 286 international matches all told. The batsman has compiled 5,842 test runs and 5,804 in ODIs while having a strike rate of 104.19 in t20 internationals.

Sarwan has made four of his hundreds in the fourth innings of a test and nobody has scored more. The batsman holds the record alongside Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith and Younus Khan.

Sarwan is also a useful leg spin bowler, having taken 23 wickets in his career. He has picked up 56 across all first-glass games and 37 in List A/t20.
