Kinch enjoying time in Adelaide

Date: Wednesday 16 December 2009

Leicestershire CCC Academy Player Liam Kinch is currently enjoying a trip to Adelaide as he continues his progress in the game.

Off-spinning all-rounder Kinch, who combines playing for Sileby Town as well as the Academy and Second XI, is training every day at the world renowned Darren Lehmann Academy and is reaping the benefits.

Leicestershire players such as Matthew Boyce and Jigar Naik have been to the Academy in the past and said it has been massively influential on their career. Kinch is no different.

The teenager is also playing grade cricket for Tea Tree Gully CC, a side who Josh Cobb played for last winter. He has impressed for the team – indeed, the talented all-rounder took a hat-trick a few weeks ago!

Overall, he is loving the experience. He said: “It is going really well, I am training every day in the Darren Lehmann academy working on strength, cardio and cricket skills.

“I am also learning new tactics and how to bowl and bat on different types of wickets. Darren Lehmann comes in and coaches and Jason Gillespie has been coaching too. It’s been great so far.

“I am also playing for Tea Tree Gully, that is going well too and I took a hat-trick the other week!

“I struggled with the 40 degree heat when I first got out here but I’m getting use to it now and just loving it.”

Kinch hopes the whole experience will benefit his career in the future. He said: “I still have another year to go on the Academy and am hoping to progress as far as I can.

“I played second XI cricket last season and played some pre-season stuff last year too so hopefully I can build on that.

“Being at the Darren Lehmann Academy has been great so far and I’m going to continue to enjoy it and keep learning.”
