Tom New and Jigar Naik had outstanding games as Leicestershire Seconds beat their Yorkshire counterparts by 112 runs in the Championship at Barnsley.
New made 145 in Leicestershire’s first innings, while Naik had match figures of 10-88 as the team triumphed impressively.
It was a strong County side as regular first-team batters Matthew Boyce, New, Josh Cobb and Jacques du Toit were all part of the line-up and the bowling attack included plenty of first-team experience in Nadeem Malik, Sam Cliff and Harry Gurney.
New’s outstanding knock included 19 boundaries. Amar Rashid also played well for an unbeaten 75 as the pair put on 111 and the team made 298 in total.
Yorkshire then made 140 as Naik took 4-27. Gurney and Dan Masters claimed two apiece and Cliff also took a wicket.
County struggled in their second dig and were bowled out for 152. Malik top-scored with 49* and he shared 63 with Cliff (31).
Yorkshire were then removed for 198 as Naik took 6-61 from 28 overs. Alex Wyatt took 2-11 and Malik and Gurney chipped in with one apiece.
* New and Naik were also in good form during the Trophy game at Headingley which was played the day before.
The batsman made 77 from 88 balls and shared a stand of 121 for the third wicket with Cobb, who made an excellent 61.
That helped take Leicestershire to 255-8 and impressive bowling from Malik and Gurney sealed the 154-run victory.
Malik took 4-13 from seven overs and Gurney claimed 2-11 as they tore through the order. Naik chipped in with 2-6 and there were also wickets for Cliff and Rashid.
* Leicestershire Seconds lost their three-day friendly to Scotland Lions at Ashby Hastings last week.
Nathan Hawkes led the way with 112 as Leics posted 348-7d in the first innings and du Toit chipped in with 63.
There were also scores of 40 plus from Charles Wootton, Nadeem Malik and Alan Burton.
In reply, Scotland posted 311 with Malik the pick of the attack with 4-66. Rashid chipped in with 3-47.
In the second dig, Burton’s 60 helped Leics to 195-7d and that left a victory target of 233 to win.
They reached that score for the loss of two wickets.
