Leicestershire Seconds lost to Derbyshire Seconds after setting the visitors a target in a Friendly match at Grace Road.
After making 252 in the first innings with Harrow Schoolboy Will Jones top-scoring with 62 and Jacques du Toit adding 46, County reduced Derbyshire to 48-7 in their first knock.
Nadeem Malik (4-68) and Harry Gurney (3-27 off 17) both delivered fine opening bursts. The pair took two wickets apiece up front.
Nathan Hawkes (3-29) chipped in with three wickets but Derbyshire’s tail launched a fine comeback on the second day.
Jake Needham scored a century and Tom Lungley also played well in making 59. Their 137-run stand rallied the visitors to 237.
Jones and du Toit again batted well in the second knock, scoring 78 and 82 respectively.
County pulled out at 229-5 in their second innings, to put the bowlers under a bit of pressure. In a Championship game, the team would no doubt have batted on longer.
That left 245 to win in around 60 overs and the visitors knocked the runs off in 56.5 overs. Chesney Hughes made 129 and former County man John Sadler scored 74.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to take; which is the main thing from a friendly match.
Malik, Gurney and Alex Wyatt all got a good workout following previous injuries and both Jones and du Toit looked good at the wicket.
Shiv Thakor and Jigar Naik also batted well in the first innings and Liam Kinch took 1-13 off seven overs in the second dig with two batsmen set at the wicket.
