Wickets for Troops

Date: Wednesday 28 April 2010

The World of Cricket donates thousands of Wickets For Troops this summer

  • 14 of Britain’s county cricket clubs pledge over 20,000 free entry tickets to our soldiers, sailors and airmen;
  • Offers include tickets for Friends Provident t20 Cup, Clydesdale Bank 40, LVCC, npower Test and Natwest Series fixtures.
  • Natwest donate tickets for all of their sponsored fixtures.

Tickets For Troops is to offer servicemen and women thousands of free tickets to a number of cricket matches across Britain. Fourteen First Class County Cricket clubs have linked up with Tickets For Troops to offer troops free tickets to this summer’s domestic and international cricket programme.

In recognition of the extraordinary work of our Armed Forces, Britain’s cricket clubs have included over 400 days of cricket within their donation to Tickets for Troops. With such a good geographical spread of participating cricket clubs, location need not be an issue with a club sure to be close by.

Tickets For Troops was set up last year to provide members of the Armed Forces with free tickets for major sporting events including football, horse racing, rugby, darts and cricket matches as well as theatre performances, music concerts and cultural attractions.

Since launching it has provided over 100,000 tickets and 50,000 troops have registered on the website - www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk

This noble initiative has attracted maximum support from a host of Patrons, including Dame Vera Lynn, Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, and James Blunt.

Andrew Flintoff MBE, a Tickets for Troops patron said: “I know exactly what the troops are going through from my recent experiences of travelling to Afghanistan to meet them.

"I was extremely moved by the whole experience and met some incredible people while I was out there. The Tickets for Troops scheme will hopefully help them and make them realise how grateful we are for their efforts.”

Patron Sir Ian Botham said: “Let’s get behind our troops, let’s give them some support and let’s show them just how much we appreciate the dangerous job they do for us.”
