No play was possible on the final day of the three-day friendly between Leicestershire Second XI and Glamorgan Second XI at Lutterworth CC.
Hevay rain fell throughout the morning and left the umpires with no option but to abandon the game as a draw shortly after the scheduled start time.
It was a shame the weather intervened because the game was set up nicely. Glamorgan Second XI were 203 runs ahead with seven second innings wickets intact at the end of day two.
* Paul Dixey and Jacques du Toit made fluent half-centuries and Josh Cobb fell just short of 50 as Leicestershire were bowled out for 290 on the second day.
Leicestershire had hopes of chiselling out a lead on 232-6 with Dixey in good touch but three quick Chris Ashling (5-77) wickets gave the visitors the chance to claim a decent sized first innings advantage.
Liam Kinch (27*) and Alex Wyatt shared a stubborn last wicket stand to reduce arrears to 34 and Wyatt then gave Leicestershire the best possible start by taking a wicket with the first ball of Glamorgan's second innings.
Will Bragg (46) led a fightback and Glamorgan closed in a position of strength on 169-3 with Dan Roberts (51*) and Mike Powell (44*) at the crease.
* Tenth wicket stands were certainly been a theme in the match. On the first day, it was Glamorgan's last pair John Glover and Adam Shantry that caused frustration.
Leicestershire reduced Glamorgan to 136-9 with Will MacVicar claming a four-for while Wyatt and fellow new ball bowler Usman Arif took two apiece. A run out accounted for the other wicket.
Glover (102*) and Shantry (72*) then added a record-breaking unbroken 188 for the last wicket to allow Glamorgan to declare on 324-9.
It was Glover’s maiden century while Shantry is well-known for his useful contributions against Leicestershire.
The left-hander made a hundred against Leicestershire First XI batting at number ten as part of Glamorgan’s record ninth-wicket partnership against the Club at Colwyn Bay in 2009.
Leicestershire reached 48-2 in reply with du Toit (22*) the unbeaten batsman after Kadeer Ali (18) had fallen shortly before the close.
