William Nel and Nathan Hawkes shared an unbroken stand of 122 as Leicestershire Second XI beat Derbyshire by 8 wickets in the Second XI Trophy on Tuesday.
Opener Nel made 81 not out while number four Hawkes added impetus at just the right time with a hard-hit unbeaten 57 as the team chased down Derbyshire's total of 192 to emerge victorious.
Nel had shared useful stands with Kadeer Ali (pictured, right) and Ned Eckersley before Hawkes came in with the score on 71 and both men hit plenty of boundaries - particularly in the second powerplay block - as Leicestershire recorded their first win in the tournament.
Derbyshire made 192-7 with Andy Sutton taking 3-33 and Sam Cliff claiming 2-35. Hawkes and Kadeer took the other wickets.
The team was captained by Liam Kinch and now take on the same opposition in a three-day game starting today (Wednesday) at Ashby Hastings CC.
