Academy prospect James Sykes had an excellent day as Leicestershire Second XI fought hard on the opening day of the Second XI Championship game at Durham.
Leicestershire were 124-8 at one stage but Sykes made an excellent 54 to steer his side to 220 at the Emirates Durham ICG. Chris Rushworth shone for the hosts with six wickets.
In reply, Durham were 130-4 at stumps with slow left armer Sykes following up his good work with the willow by picking up three wickets.
Opener Mark Stoneman top-scored with 56 for Durham, who will therefore resume day two 90 runs in arrears with six wickets in hand.
