Leicestershire CCC is sad to learn of the passing of former player and chairman John Josephs.
John, who lived in Kibworth Beauchamp and had a 60-year association with the Club, was chairman during the Championship winning years of 1996 and 1998.
The Club’s annual award for best individual performance in a first XI match is named after John. He presented the trophy at the club's annual presentation night in September.
Current Leicestershire CCC chairman Paul Haywood led the tributes to John. He said: "I knew John very well and worked closely with him. He was very level-headed and was a calming influence."
John used to run his own leather business in Leicester and was a keen cricketer. He played for both Leicestershire and Leicester Ivanhoe and was also a county squash champion.
He also served as a magistrate and was chairman of the bench at Lutterworth for more than 20 years and was a member of Leicester Rotary Club for more than 30 years.
John was married to Wendy for 50 years and she sadly passed away last year. The Club’s thoughts and sympathies are with John’s children David, Suzy and Belle, and his four grandchildren.
The funeral for John, who died on Christmas Day, will be held at St Wilfrid's, Kibworth Beauchamp on Tuesday, January 8, at noon. His family say all are welcome to attend.
