Taylor to undertake special journey

Date: Monday 10 September 2012

Leicestershire CCC all-rounder Rob Taylor will undertake a special journey with father Olly and brother Harry later this year.

The trio are cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats to fundraise for the charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS), who provided great support after they tragically lost wife and mother Fee in 2005.

The family have already raised £11,000 of their £15,000 target and appreciate your support.

Rob said: "SOBS has played a very important part in helping us come to terms with the loss of our mother.

“We wanted to give something back to the charity as well as raise the awareness of the amazing work they do for people who have been affected by suicide."

"With monthly meetings around the UK, SOBS provides an avenue for those who are coming to terms with a loss of a loved one, to share their experiences with people in similar situations in what can be a very confusing a stressful time."

The shock and loss of their mother was enormous and it wasn’t until 2009 when the Taylor family discovered the charity organisation SOBS.

After several phone calls, attendance at monthly meetings in Nottingham and London and the 2010 October Ross‐on‐Wye weekend retreat, their feelings and healing have unfolded in such a way that they would like to raise the profile of SOBS and some funds.

Starting on Sunday September 30, 2012 at 7am, the Taylor family will embark on the 13-day journey and hope that everybody will support the ride to help them achieve their objectives.

The ride is commonly known as LEJoG, hence the name for this charity event SOBS LEJoG 2012.

As well as trying to raise £15,000, the Taylor family is also looking to raise general awareness about SOBS.

All donations for the SOBS LEJoG 2012 will be gratefully received and can be made by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/Oliver-Taylor3

About SOBS

SOBS exists in the UK only at this stage and provides people with all levels of support whilst they come to terms with their loss.

The national phoneline and various support groups are the main avenues to access support.

Groups meet on a regular basis, usually monthly, in 41 different places throughout the UK. Each group is run by volunteers who have been affected by suicide in some way.

Generally the format is low key and allows for discussion, conversation and private sharing.

The get-together, whether big or small, is often the only place that people feel safe to be or to talk openly about their feelings and experience with suicide. Through sharing, healing occurs.
