Bowlers dominate Seconds opening day

Second XI Friendly: Northants 194 (Arif 4-63, Sheikh 3-53) lead Leicestershire 157-7 (Thornely 39) by 37 runs.

Bowlers were on top on the first day of the three-day Second XI friendly between Northamptonshire and Leicestershire at Finedon Dolben CC.

Usman Arif took 4-63 and Atif Sheikh 3-53 as Leicestershire bowled Northants out for 194. Captain Con de Lange top-scored for the hosts with 52.

County also found batting difficult. The team moved to 157-7 in reply as Michael Thornely top-scored with a patient knock of 39.

James Sykes (15*) offered useful support in a seventh wicket stand that yielded 48 before it was ended in the final over of the day. Angus Robson (17), Harry Bush (16) and Greg Smith (13) also chipped in.
