Seconds edged out

Second XI Friendly: Northants 194 (Arif 4-63, Sheikh 3-53) and 211 (Sykes 4-76, Robson 3-16) beat Leicestershire 173 (Thornely 39, Sykes 24) and 201 (Bush 48, Patel 38)

Northants Seconds completed a 31-run win against Leicestershire inside 18 overs of the final day of the friendly at Finedon Dolben CC.

County started day three on 149-6, requiring a further 84 runs to win. Play got underway 15 minutes late due to rain arriving some 30 minutes before the scheduled start.

Sunny Patel (34 not out overnight) was joined by James Sykes. Patel was out lbw to Azarullah from the last ball of the 3rd over of the morning. Usman Arif joined Sykes, and the pair added 25 for the eighth wicket before Arif was lbw, moving into his stumps to spinner Rob Keogh.

The score now stood at 181-8, so another 52 runs were needed. Sykes and Atif Sheikh added a further 20 and therefore got the target down to 32. Sykes was then bowled by Azarullah for 20 when trying to force the ball through the field.

Ben Collins joined Sheikh but was lbw first ball to Azarullah to leave Sheikh unbeaten on 10. Azarullah finished with figures of 6-67 from 19.3 overs to end with a match analysis of 11-117.
