Seconds game ends as draw

Second XI Championship: Leicestershire 20-1 v MCC Young Cricketers. Match drawn.

The Second XI game against MCC Young Cricketers was abandoned as a draw at Leicester Ivanhoe this morning. After heavy rain yesterday, water seeped under the covers, and after an inspection this morning the umpires deemed it unfit for play.

Only 5 overs play was possible in the match, in which time County moved to 20-1 with Michael Thornely dismissed for 9 and trialist Karl Turner (pictured right) making 10 not out.

Leicestershire CCC would like to put on record sincere thanks to Melanie and John Punchard, ably assisted by Laura Dyer for all their hard work on the catering side. Nothing was too much trouble for them, their presentation and customer service skills were excellent. Very well done!

Also sincere thanks to Groundsman Dave Burdett, and his band of merry men for their herculean efforts in attempting to get the ground fit to play. Although it was to no avail all their hard work was very much appreciated.
