Tasmania take the Shield

Joe Burns made a battling 32 to help Queensland draw the Sheffield Shield Final against Tasmania but it was not enough to land the title.

Queensland had to force an outright victory in Hobart to take the crown. Tasmania made most of the running and although they couldn't seal a win, their dominant display was enough to be named champions.

Tasmania set the tone in their first innings as they posted 419 in a mammoth 173.4 overs to take the sting out of the game.

Queensland replied with 225 before Tasmania made 251 in their second innings. That set Queensland a very stiff target of 446 and they closed on 183-6 with Burns posting his runs from 89 balls with three fours.

* Warwickshire have continued to dominate the Champion County game in Abu Dhabi. After declaring on 561-6, Warwickshire reduced the MCC to 73-7 at the halfway stage of the contest.

Leicestershire's Ned Eckersley is keeping wicket for the MCC and made six runs batting at number seven.

* MCC moved to 130 all out in their first innings and although they fared much better second time around, Warwickshire completed victory by an innings and 29 runs.

Middlesex's Joe Denly (149) again top-scored and it was a case of a former and current Kent player forming an alliance as he and Sam Northeast (89) put on 156 for the second wicket.

Somerset's Peter Trego made 87 batting at number six while Eckersley (1) became the 7th of eight match victims for impressive Bears seamer Chris Wright as MCC posted 402.
