Leicestershire off-spinner Rob Sayer made 32 but England slipped to a three-wicket defeat to UAE in the tri-nations tournament today.
Sayer scored his runs batting at number seven off 39 balls, including two fours and two sixes, as England posted a competitive 250-9. Ryan Higgins top-scored with a fine 75.
In reply, UAE, who needed eight off the final over, won for the first time in the competition by three wickets with three balls to spare. Karl Carver was the pick of the attack with 2-35 from his 10 overs.
England can still guarantee their place in the final if they beat Pakistan in the final group game on Friday. However, they will get through regardless of the result of that match if UAE lose to Pakistan tomorrow.
Pakistan have already qualified for the showpiece game, which will be played on Sunday (December 22).
