Batsmen make good progress at Weetwood

Matthew Boyce made a century and Dan Redfern struck 87 as Leicestershire reached 343-5 on the second day of the university match against Leeds-Bradford MCCU.

County resumed on 41-1 and Boyce and Redfern took their stand beyond 100 in the first session as both recorded half-centuries. Redfern was first to his 50 from 67 balls with seven fours, while Boyce's hard-working 134-ball effort did not include a boundary.

The score moved to 160-1 at lunch with Boyce on 62 and Redfern 67. Redfern progressed to 87 before being bowled by Will Vanderspar. The pair had added 181 for the second wicket.

Boyce’s century came from 207 balls and included seven fours, and Usman Tariq made 18 before falling to David Foster. Boyce moved to 126 before being caught off off-spinner Alexander MacQueen.

Lewis Hill then made 8 before being trapped leg before by Zafir Patel, and Wells pushed on to an unbeaten 49 before rain stopped play with the score on 343-5. Wells had added 48 with Jigar Naik (10 not out) at that point in proceedings – and there was no further play.
