Leicestershire’s bid to get the 2014 season underway was frustrated by the weather at Canterbury today.
The scheduled first game of the campaign was postponed due to the tragic death of Keith Poynton and County were not involved in the second round of fixtures.
Preparations had therefore been geared around the first day at Kent but persistent rain meant that no play was possible.
The teams were named and the toss took place with a view to a 3pm start but rain returned to spoil the best laid plans.
Ramnaresh Sarwan has a sore back and is having treatment in Leicester, so Josh Cobb will captain the side when the game starts tomorrow. Dan Redfern and Shiv Thakor were also ruled out because of finger injuries.
Leicestershire handed a debut to Charlie Shreck against his former county while Niall O'Brien is also playing against his old side. Jigar Naik and Anthony Ireland were named in the team after missing the last few LV=CC matches of 2013 through injury.
Kent selected young off-spinner Adam Riley in front of James Tredwell and had former Foxes Darren Stevens and Robbie Joseph in their XI.
The home side won the toss and invited Leicestershire to bat when the coin was flipped at 2.30pm. However the rain came back and umpires George Sharp and Neil Bainton abandoned the day at 3.50pm.
The forecast is much better for tomorrow so the two teams will hope to get the LV=CC match underway at 11am.
