Leicestershire got in some useful match practice against Oxford MCCU at The Parks today.
With the first day lost to rain, the sides agreed on a timed game, with each side having 3 hours of batting time.
The aim was for each side to bat as close to 50 overs per side as possible with each bowler looking to get in 10 overs. A red ball was used and it was therefore not a traditional one-day match.
Oxford MCCU were 53-2 after 26 overs at lunch with seamer Nathan Buck (8-3-20-2) having claimed both wickets. The team went on to score 78-6 from 40 overs with Mike Thornely (4-2-6-2), James Sykes (3-1-4-1) and Alex Wyatt (8-1-16-1) in the wickets after lunch.
Anthony Ireland (8-4-16-0), Rob Taylor (8-3-11-0) and Josh Cobb (1-1-0-0) were the other bowlers used.
In reply, Leicestershire made 101-1 before the rain set in. Thornely continued his good day by scoring 48 (67 balls) while opening partner Greg Smith finished on 35 not out (94 balls). Ned Eckersley (10*, 29 balls) was the other unbeaten batsman.
Leicestershire (12 players selected): Smith, Thornely, Eckersley, Redfern, Cobb, Boyce, Robson, Taylor, Sykes, Buck, Ireland, Wyatt
* Leicestershire were due to face Cambridge MCCU at Fenner's tomorrow but the match has been postponed because of the weather.
The game was originally down to be a 50-over white ball affair but had been changed to replicate today’s schedule because of the first day abandonment at Oxford.
Niall O’Brien, Charlie Shreck, Ben Raine, Tom Wells, Ollie Freckingham and Jigar Naik were all down to play but the squad will now have net practice at Grace Road instead of the match.
