James Sykes was again in good form as Leicestershire Second XI enjoyed another good day in the Championship match against Lancashire at Liverpool.
Sykes took 4-30 in the Trophy win against the Red Rose county on Monday and picked up 5-82 today as Lancashire were dismissed for 269 in reply to Leicestershire’s 375-7 declared.
Sykes (2*) then played the role of nightwatchman and he and Matthew Boyce (5*) got through to stumps on 10-0 after five overs, so Leicestershire will start day three 116 runs ahead of their opponents.
Paceman Ollie Freckingham also had good figures of 11.3-5-24-2 and there was a wicket apiece for Alex Wyatt (17-4-43-1), Usman Tariq (15.3-5-37-1) and Chris Whittock (10-1-39-1).
Number three Liam Livingstone top-scored for Lancashire with 60 (118b, 7x4, 1x6), while Mattie McKiernan and Liam Hurt shared 59 for the eighth wicket to get Lancs out of a spot of bother.
