Gooch to speak at LCS meeting

The Leicestershire Cricket Society is delighted to announce that Graham Gooch OBE will speak at a meeting on Thursday February 4, 2010.

The former Essex and England captain and opener will address the society in the Charles Palmer Suite on what will be an excellent and entertaining evening.

Gooch was inducted into the ICC’s Hall of Fame this year and is England’s record run scorer in test match history. Since his retirement, he has launched a successful career in coaching.

Gooch has worked closely with a number of batsmen at Essex, and Alastair Cook and Ravi Bopara are two men to have benefited from his guidance and gone on to become test match players. Former Leicestershire player Darren Maddy also worked closely with Gooch,

In his playing career, Gooch’s England best was a brilliant 333 against India, and he also scored a century in the second innings of that match. It made him the only person to score a triple hundred and a century in separate innings in a first-class game.

Gooch has had a tremendous career and the evening is expected to be a sell-out – so non-members are advised to get their tickets early.

Tickets are available for £5. For more details and to secure a ticket, please email: lcs@councilcricketsocieties.com

* There are two meetings before Gooch’s appearance, with Dennis Amiss next on the list of speakers.

Amiss, a former Warwickshire player who opened the batting with Leicestershire Chief Executive David Smith on many occasions, will speak on Thursday December 3 in the Charles Palmer Suite.

Then, on Thursday January 14, Glenys Williams will address the Society. Glenys is the curator and archivist at the Lord’s Museum.

Again, to book tickets, which cost £4 for each speech, please email lcs@councilcricketsocieties.com
