Seconds Update

Leicestershire Seconds have been in action recently in all three formats of their fixture list.

The Second XI missed out on the final of the experimental trophy after losing to Sussex by three wickets at Lutterworth CC.

Although the format is a forty over game split into two phases, because of the wet conditions, the match was reduced to a straight 25-over affair.

Leicestershire were bowled out for 90 in the seam-friendly conditions, withTom New top-scoring with 22.

There were two wickets apiece for Will Adkin (2 for 6), Ragheb Aga (2 for 18), Chad Keegan (2 for 23) and Dwayne Smith (2 for 13).

The Foxes were did their best to defend their total and Sam Cliff struck twice early on.

However, Sussex reached their target for the loss of seven wickets with six overs to spare.

Michael Thornely’s 32 proved the top score of the match while Matt Machan (20) and Keegan (17) made valuable contributions.

Back to the more traditional fixtures, the team won games in the Championship and Trophy at MCC at Radlett, with Joel Pope and Dan Masters excelling in the 68-run Trophy win.

Matthew Boyce and Nathan Hawkes were then heavily in the runs and Amar Rashid well among the wickets during the three day game which was won by an innings and 47 runs.

In the Trophy, the team posted 327-6 with Pope making 123. New chipped in with 55 and Boyce contributed 44.

Dan Masters took a five-for in the reply and AJ Harris three wickets as MCC YC were dismissed for 259.

Boyce was then in outstanding form in the Championship game as he made 192. Hawkes also played superbly in making 155 as the team made 520-7 in reply to MCC's 206.

With the ball, Amar Rashid had a fabulous game. He took eight wickets in the game, while Harris chipped in with a first innings three-for.

MCC made 265 in their second innings but that did not make the side bat again.

However, the team lost both games against Lancashire played this week.

Lancs won by ten wickets in the Championship and by 56 runs in the Trophy. In the Championship game, Lancashire made 420 with Dan Masters taking 4-60.

Leicestershire then made 245 with Joel Pope top-scoring with 65 and were the team were then dismissed for 185 despite Josh Cobb's 69. Lancashire reached their victory target without loss.

In the trophy, Harris and Hawkes each took three wickets as Lancashire were bowled out for 286. However, in reply, Leicestershire could only get to 230 despite Will Jones' outstanding 106.
