Seconds draw at Barnt Green

Warwickshire Second XI 364 (Javid 141, Walker 5-104, Kinch 2-41) drew with Leicestershire Second XI 258 (New 72, Roberts 71*, Flowers 67) and 88-3 (Flowers 40)

Leicestershire Second XI drew their Championship match against Leicestershire at Barnt Green.

Rain ruined the prospect of an interesting final day, with County still 18 runs behind in the second knock with seven wickets in hand.

Warwickshire would have been hoping to set up a victory charge, but Leics would have been setting out to bat all day and negate those prospects.

On day one, Leicestershire won the toss and batted and scored briskly, with the in-form Tom New (72) again in the runs.

New made a century in the trophy game on Tuesday to go with some excellent LV Championship knocks for the first team, and again batted well here.

Alex Roberts ended the innings on 71* after running out of partners, and the consistent Tom Flowers chipped in with 67.

For the Bears, Naqaash Tahir (3-26) and Shaaiq Choudhry (3-66) were the leading bowlers.

In the reply, Warwickshire were 114-3 at the close from 34 overs, and extended that tally to 364 on day two.

Ateeq Javid, who like New made a 100 in the SET game at Stratford, made it two hundreds for the week.

For County, slow left-armer George Walker was the most successful bowler, taking 5-104. Liam Kinch also took two wickets with his off-spin.

Walker, who was on the professional staff at County a few years ago, has been impressing for Norfolk and took the opportunity to impress in this game.

Fellow triallist Dan Masters also bowled with decent pace, but the Bears batted well to put Leics under pressure.

Paul Best claimed all three second-innings wickets, but rain fell to ensure honours ended even due to the heavy rain.

The points ended with Warwickshire taking 11 and Leics 10.
