An experienced bowler signed upon his release from Notts at the end of the 2008 season, AJ Harris led an attack that suffered a large number of injuries with aplomb in 2009.

The evergreen paceman played in every Championship game despite nursing a foot injury for long periods, which was a great effort.

Harris ended as leading Championship wicket-taker in taking 35 wickets and he could easily have added to that collection after a number of luckless spells. He also bowled well in one-day and Twenty20 cricket when the opportunity arose.

A key feature of his bowling was his willingness to work for the team. Whatever stage of the day he came on, Harris charged in like it was his first ball of the day.

That enthusiasm and love of his trade was a great role model for the young seamers at the club, who could also learn from his skill and accuracy as well as his attitude.

The 36-year-old started his career at Derbyshire and also spent loan spells at Gloucestershire and Worcestershire in ’08, where he impressed coaching staff.

Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell paid Harris a glowing tribute upon his release and it is now easy to see why.

A keen Manchester City fan who has almost 450 first-class wickets under his belt, Harris signed a new one-year deal for 2010 and everyone will look forward to him returning.
