A South Africa international in both forms of the game, Dippenaar is an undoubted class act. However, for one reason or another 2008 did not bring the run glut everybody hoped for. It certainly wasn’t for the want of trying as Dippenaar worked tirelessly for the club both on the field and in the nets. He finally gained some deserved reward for his efforts with an unbeaten 84 in the final match of the season against Derbyshire, showing glimpses of his early season form where he performed well. Dippenaar showed his ability in the field throughout, where he won the Roger Goadby award for the campaign after a series of superb catches in his specialized position of second slip. A batsman of proven international pedigree, Dippenaar averaged above 30 at test level and above 42 in more than 100 ODIs. The batsman scored his maiden test century against New Zealand at the Wanderers, and hit a best of 177* against Bangladesh in Chittagong in 2003. A sweet timer of the ball, Dippenaar had great success while opening the batting in ODIs for his country and had a sensational series against the West Indies in 2005, where he ended with an average of more than 100. Dippenaar has also enjoyed great domestic success in his native country with Eagles. He led the side to the SuperSport Series title in 2007-08 and also enjoyed a good Standard Bank Twenty20 series for his country, which delayed the start of his Leicestershire career. Returns for a second season as overseas player in 2009.
