Joel Pope is a young wicket-keeper batsman previously on the MCC Young Cricketers' books.
Although he did not make a first team appearance in 2009, Pope performed well for the second XI with bat and gloves.
Pope made his one-day debut in the Pro40 win against Derbyshire in 2008 and is the nephew of Middlesex wicket-keeper Ben Scott. He wintered in Perth in 2007-08 to continue his development playing grade cricket for Melville CC.
Pope once fielded for England as thirteenth man against the West Indies, but it is his wicket-keeping which has earned him rave reviews in his career to date.
The youngster signed a new two-year deal with the club at the end of 2008 to see him through to the end of the 2010 season and will compete for a wicket-keeping berth with Tom New next season.
