Rob Taylor in Scotland World Cup squad

Leicestershire CCC would like to congratulate Rob Taylor on being selected in Scotland's 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup next month.

The all-rounder has been a consistent performer for club and country over the last couple of years and that has ensured that he will be going to New Zealand and Australia.

Scotland has been handed a very tough opening game against joint hosts New Zealand in a sold-out fixture in Dunedin on Tuesday, February 17.

The team, captained by former Leicestershire all-rounder Preston Mommsen, then face a mouthwatering game against England in Christchurch on Monday, February 23.

Scotland also take on Afghanistan and Bangladesh in New Zealand before playing Sri Lanka and joint hosts Australia in Hobart.

Richie Berrington, who played for Leicestershire Second XI, is also part of a 15-man touring party that has plenty of county experience.

Kyle Coetzer, Matt Machan and Calum MacLeod were regulars for Northants, Sussex and Durham last season and most of the squad has played domestic cricket in England.

Squad: Preston Mommsen (captain), Kyle Coetzer (vice-captain), Richie Berrington, Freddie Coleman, Matthew Cross, Joshua Davey, Alasdair Evans, Hamish Gardiner, Majid Haq, Michael Leask, Matt Machan, Calum MacLeod, Safyaan Sharif, Rob Taylor, Iain Wardlaw.

* Ireland won their first game of the 50-over Dubai Triangular Series against Afghanistan but it was a close run thing.

Ireland slipped to 129-7 after bowling Afghanistan out for 180 In 44.2 overs before getting home without further loss thanks to an unbeaten stand of 52 between Andy Balbirnie and Alex Cusack. Niall O'Brien made 22 batting at number five. Ireland now face Scotland on Monday in the third match of the tournament.
