Pillans extends stay by further month

Leicestershire County Cricket Club have been given a huge boost ahead of their NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final at Glamorgan as the loan deal of Mathew Pillans has been extended by another month.

The Surrey quick bowler’s second month on loan ended after the NatWest T20 Blast group stages but the Foxes have moved quickly to ensure that Pillans is available for the trip to Cardiff.

Pillans has played a key role at the Fischer County Ground in NatWest T20 Blast and will also be available to play in the Specsavers County Championship - a competition where he has also made his mark.

The 26-year-old bowled the last over at Notts Outlaws with the hosts requiring eight runs to win and conceded just five. He finished with tremendous figures of 3 for 24 in a game where the going rate was over ten runs per over.

All told, Pillans picked up 17 wickets in 14 NatWest T20 Blast group matches at an average of 26.58. He was the most used bowler and also topped the batting averages following a number of handy contributions.

Pillans has taken nine Specsavers County Championship wickets at an average of 31.77 and made a score of 56 that got the team close to recording a record chase at Northamptonshire.

The addition of Pillans to the Leicestershire squad has been a valuable one, particularly given that bowlers Clint McKay, Richard Jones, Ben Raine and Zak Chappell have suffered with injuries in recent weeks.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “Mathew’s work ethic and quality preparation is paying off and he has won games for us under pressure. We are delighted that he will be with us for another month, including the quarter-final at Glamorgan.”
