FoGR make £9,000 donation

Chairman of the Friends of Grace Road, Roy Bent, has the following message to Leicestershire Members and supporters.

As Chairman of the Friends of Grace Road [FoGR], I can report that 2016-17 has been another very successful and profitable year for the FoGR. I am pleased to be able to announce that the FoGR will donate a total of £9,000 to the club this year, effective immediately but in two parts.

All visitors to Grace Road will know that the club’s catering department has in recent years developed and transformed its commercial facilities and offerings for corporate hospitality packages and private functions and events.

Alongside this transformation, all of the club’s matchday food and beverage outlets have been enhanced to such an extent that they are now highly regarded and widely recognised as some of the best on the county cricket circuit.

So, the FoGR are pleased to be able to allocate £6,000 of the 2017 donation to the urgent replacement of an oven and a dishwasher which will enable the catering department to maintain its impressive plans for growth and retain its well-earned reputation and prestige, all for the benefit of club members, spectators and visitors to the Fischer County Ground.

Further, like all supporters of Leicestershire, everyone concerned with the FoGR wants to see the development of young cricketers in the region and progression of those cricketers from the club’s Academy towards the Leicestershire senior teams.

Indeed, if you look closely at the club’s Academy, you will see that it has an overarching philosophy and worthwhile aims and objectives, which echo the thoughts of all supporters of cricket here. It is to develop cricketers and young adults of which we will all be proud in the future. Therefore, the FoGR are keen to build a relationship with all of the age groups associated with the Academy and a bond that those young cricketers will cherish as they progress to a professional career.

Consequently, the FoGR are also pleased to be able to allocate £3,000 of the 2017 donation to the Leicestershire CCC Academy. This will be used to provide:

- Additional FoGR-sponsored fixtures for different age groups, which will be arranged so that they don’t coincide with senior cricket at the Fischer County Ground and then promoted widely so that we can all attend to watch our young cricketers.

- FoGR trophies and medals awarded each year to the best of those young cricketers in order to encourage and reward their development.

- Opportunities, as considered appropriate by the club’s coaches, for the best of those young cricketers to develop their specific skills with top domestic or international cricketers.

The identity, contribution and involvement of the FoGR in the Academy will be recognised by the general public, the players and parents through the FoGR logo appearing on the playing shirts of all Leicestershire Academy cricketers.

Thank you to all who supported the FoGR during the year and to our very willing volunteers for their unstinting efforts.
