Reception for Lol

Leicestershire County Cricket Club is hosting a reception to commemorate the outstanding services of Lawrence ‘Lol’ Spence.

The reception will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, November 22 in the Charles Palmer Suite and everybody is welcome to attend.

Lol played a total of 20 first-class matches for Leicestershire as a right handed batsman and leg-break bowler.

After retiring from first-class cricket, Lol retained his connection with sport as a groundsman, firstly by assisting W Berridge at Wyggeston Grammar School, and then as Head Greenkeeper at Scraptoft Golf Club.

Lol returned to Grace Road as Assistant Groundsman in 1970 taking over as Head Groundsman when Walter White retired in 1973, until he retired in 1997. He was responsible for the practice wickets at the ground that have so impressed players over the years.
