All-rounder Javid signs for Leicestershire

Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce the signing of talented all-rounder Ateeq Javid on a two-year contract from Warwickshire. The 25-year-old will join Leicestershire at the end of the 2017 season.

Javid, who came through the Warwickshire system like England internationals Ian Bell and Chris Woakes, made his England Under-19s debut aged just 17.

He scored 619 runs in Division One of the County Championship in 2013 at an average of 44.00, including two centuries, and has excelled in white ball cricket in recent seasons.

Javid helped Birmingham Bears to their NatWest T20 Blast title win in 2014; the dismissal of Kevin Pietersen with his first ball of the semi-final against Surrey was a key contribution.

The all-rounder, who bats in the middle order, has scored 2,117 runs and claimed 57 wickets across all three different formats of the professional game.

Thirty of those victims have been in NatWest T20 Blast at an economy rate of 7.3 runs per over, a format where he also has a strike rate approaching 120.

Javid said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Leicestershire and thoroughly look forward to starting next season with the Foxes. I’ve had a great start to my career with Warwickshire and want to thank everyone who has helped my development over the years. However, the time is right to make a move, fight for a place and hopefully play regular cricket across all formats.”

Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: "We know that Ateeq is talented in all formats of the game and he will compete for a place in the side in both red and white ball cricket. Ateeq is a very versatile player who can adapt to different roles in different competitions.

"Ateeq will strengthen our batting in all competitions, he offers a very useful off-spin option, and is an excellent fielder too. We have been following Ateeq’s progress for some time and are delighted to welcome him to the club."
