REPORT | There was no play on the first day of the Specsavers County Championship game between Leicestershire and Northamptonshire at the Fischer County Ground.

Heavy amounts of rain fell during the early hours and continued late into the morning in the LE2 area.

Although the precipitation eventually relented, large puddles had formed on the outfield at the Pavilion End, and heavy clouds did not provide good drying conditions.

Leicestershire's groundstaff conducted a mopping up operation throughout the day but parts of the ground were still wet at 3.30pm.

Umpires Paul Baldwin and Nick Cook conducted regular inspections during the day but there was no chance of play.
