Abbas settles in with Foxes
Leicestershire CCC overseas player Muhammad Abbas has taken little time to settle into life at the Fischer County Ground.
The 28-year-old is a high-class performer on the field; Abbas has taken 23 wickets in the first five test matches for Pakistan and his overall record includes 304 first-class victims at 21.05 apiece.
Abbas was confirmed in the Pakistan squad for the upcoming test series against Ireland and England over the weekend and he showed Leicestershire CCC Members his considerable talent with a lively performance against Loughborough MCCU over the weekend.
The fast bowler has already established himself as a key figure in the dressing room, playing a full role in the club’s Press Day and getting to know his teammates.
“I have settled in very well, I am very much enjoying my time at Leicestershire County Cricket Club. Everyone has made me feel welcome.” said Abbas.
“It has been good to meet everyone, we have a lot of good people in the changing room. We have some very funny people, there have been a lot of jokes shared already.
“I arrived the day before our media day and I really enjoyed it. I’ve spent some time with my teammates training and playing against Loughborough too. It was good to get out bowling at the Fischer County Ground.”
Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon is full of praise for his star overseas player. “Abbas is a quality bowler as we saw against Loughborough MCCU and his knowledge and experience is already rubbing off on our young seamers,” said Nixon.
“He has already shown the qualities that we knew we were getting, so it’s fair to say that he’s off to a flying start with us.”
Abbas is now relishing the prospect of playing for the Foxes in the Specsavers County Championship game against Sussex, a game that starts at 11am on Friday at the Fischer County Ground.
He said: “This is my first time playing in county cricket, I will give my very best for Leicestershire County Cricket Club. I am really looking forward to my first County Championship game against Sussex on Friday and it would be great to see many supporters here to watch it.
“It is an exciting time. I will always give my very best for Leicestershire and Pakistan, and it will be an honour to play at grounds in England, such as at Lord’s."
