Foxes v Lightning at Oakham School

The Royal London One-Day Cup campaign gets underway at Northants Steelbacks tomorrow – and our penultimate home group fixture sees us take on Lancashire Lightning at Oakham School on Thursday, May 31.

In last season’s competition the Foxes travelled to Emirates Old Trafford for our first fixture in the competition and won a rain-affected thriller.

The Lightning amassed 314 from their 50 overs before openers Mark Pettini and Cameron Delport got the Foxes off to the best possible start putting on 101 for the first wicket inside 18 overs.

Three wickets were then lost for 18 runs before Tom Wells and Zak Chappell saw the side home after Rob Sayer fell for a quickfire 24. The pair added 23 to see their side to victory.

In limited overs cricket, outgrounds have been a common theme between the sides. In the T20 Blast in 2017 the Foxes travelled to Aigburth, Liverpool for their opening T20 Blast fixture which was another thriller - the Foxes took the points off the last ball of the game.

Our return to the picturesque Oakham School for the first time in 11 years promises to be a memorable occasion.

Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “Oakham School is a terrific venue that many of our Members will have enjoyed visiting in the past. It is important to take county cricket as far and wide as we can, and this is a fantastic opportunity to take cricket to a new audience in Rutland and surrounding counties.

“The Royal London One-Day Cup match against Lancashire Lightning promises to be an entertaining fixture and we’d like to thank everybody at Oakham School for making the staging of this fixture possible.”
