FoGR Winter Events 2018

The Friends of Grace Road are busy preparing for a number of events over the next few weeks, inlcuding the first Members' lunch of 2018-19 featuring guest speakers Andy Siddall and Phil DeFreitas.

Drinks will be available from 12 noon in the Fox Bar, and a delicious three-course meal will be held at 12.30pm in the Charles Palmer Suite on Friday, November 2.

A starter of Vale of Belvoir Mushroom Cup filled with black pudding, smoked ham and vine tomato will be followed by pot roasted shank of lamb set on a mint and rosemary mash, with apple tarte tatin for dessert.

The meal will be rounded off by coffee and red fox mints, and the event includes insightful talks from Andy and Phil.

Andy joined the club in May 2012 with a background in people development and over fifteen years coaching experience, including five years as Head Coach at Leeds Carnegie and coaching roles at Yorkshire CCC and Leeds Bradford MCCU.

He also has experience working abroad in South Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia. Andy now heads the Leicestershire CCC Academy with the responsibility of overseeing the personal and cricketing development of all the club’s young cricketers, hopefully to first class level as they move through the school, club and university cricketing environments.

Phil, perhaps more commonly known as ‘Daffy’ is, of course, the former English county cricketer who played for Leicestershire CCC, Lancashire CCC and Derbyshire CCC, as well as appearing in 44 Test matches and 103 ODIs. He also played for the South African side, Boland.

Daffy has been described as an explosive hitter when the mood took him, an aggressive pace bowler and a spectacular fielder. He has the distinction of being the only player in the history of the County Championship to take a five-wicket haul against each of the 18 first-class counties.

He retired from playing cricket in April 2005 and has since been a cricket master at Oakham School and Magdalen College School, Oxford. More recently he has been coaching within Leicestershire schools and has been a highly influential coach at the Leicestershire CCC Academy.

The event represents great value at £18.95 per person and can be booked using the details below.

Before that event, the club will hold a Murder Mystery Event on Friday, October 19, and the FoGR Autumn Craft Fayre will run on Saturday, October 27 from 10am.

The ever-popular FoGR Annual Quiz Night will take place on Friday, November 16, with teams of four invited to participate. The entry fee of £20 includes a hot buffet.
