Background information


Cricket has been played in Leicestershire since the 1770s, with Leicestershire County Cricket Club’s (LCCC) first recorded scorecard dated 1836. The LCCC which exists today was not officially formed until 25 March 1879.

Today the business is a £4m turnover operation (forecasted for 2017) and the club is based at Fischer County Ground, Grace Road. The club competes in the second division of the Specsavers County Championship, as well as in the Royal London One-Day Cup and the NatWest T20 Blast. Leicestershire’s best showing in recent years has been in the Twenty20 Cup with the Foxes winning the trophy three times in nine years and by doing so, becoming the most successful domestic T20 team in the country.

Since the unveiling of an ambitious five-year business plan in 2015, the business has been transformed, with a net profit recorded in 2015 and 2016 and similar expected in 2017. In addition, LCCC secured its first ever Ground Naming Rights Partner, with Fischer Future Heat signing a 5-year deal in 2015. 


LCCC are looking to appoint a Deputy Chief Executive Officer. The purpose of the role is to provide executive leadership to the Management Team to ensure that LCCC is commercially successful and operated in as efficient and effective manner as possible. The Deputy CEO will oversee ongoing business operations and procedures within LCCC. The Deputy CEO will also formally represent the CEO when required and will be accountable for the efficiency of the business.   

The position will oversee daily operations of LCCC and the line management of department heads across Commercial, Community, Ground Staff, Health & Safety and Marcomms. The successful candidate will also assist the Finance Manager with financial projections and analyses of existing programmes and policies, departmental budgets and resources. 

This person will ensure LCCC continues to be recognised not only as a leading county cricket venue, but also home to new and profitable commercial opportunities driven by both a local and regional business base.


The successful candidate must have proven general management skills encompassing direct experience in all key areas of responsibility, namely leadership, executive management, commercial development, operational and financial efficiency and effectiveness. Significant experience within a senior business/commercial leadership position is also essential.  

Strong understanding of a range of functional departments which may include: HR, Finance, Operations, Marketing, Sales and Catering operations is essential. 

Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development in the sports sector is desirable. Excellent influencing skills are essential, along with an ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organisation.

A degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration, or another relevant field is desirable, as is an MBA.

The successful candidate must be prepared to work flexible hours to accommodate match-day responsibilities and be available throughout the cricket season.
