Leicestershire CCC announced Matt Mason as the club’s new Head Bowling Coach ahead of the 2018 season.

Mason previously had a long association with Worcestershire CCC as a player and coach, including roles as Assistant Coach and Bowling Coach when the Pears won promotion to Specsavers County Championship Division One in 2017.

The 43-year-old also has extensive experience with the ECB and, upon his appointment was working as a coach with the Pace Programme alongside Leicestershire CCC seamer Zak Chappell in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Mason has also worked with England Women at senior and junior level as well as the Junior Development Programme and Elite Fast Bowling Group.

A successful first-class career, which also took in a spell with Western Australia, saw Mason claim a total of 318 wickets at an average of 27.35. Mason took 103 wickets in white ball cricket in his playing career before working with the professional players and Academy at New Road.

Mason helped to develop a very exciting crop of young seam bowlers over the years at Worcestershire CCC including Josh Tongue, George Scrimshaw, Dillon Pennington and Adam Finch.

Tongue was with England Lions in Australia in December 2017 on their pre-Christmas camp, Scrimshaw worked with Mason on the ECB Pace Programme alongside Chappell, while Pennington and Finch were away with England U19s at the ICC World Cup in January 2018.
