Leicestershire CCC announced the signing of Pakistan international seamer Muhammad Abbas for the 2018 season, and the bowler will continue his spell in Leicestershire for the 2019 season.

Abbas will share the main role of overseas player with Sohail Khan, who is providing cover from late-April to mid-June. 

The Pakistan international signed for the Foxes with an excellent test match record, and has now claimed 66 wickets at under 19 apiece. His 418 first-class wickets have been snared at 19.93 and Abbas has also picked up 87 wickets in white ball cricket.

Abbas was the leading wicket-taker in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 first-class seasons in Pakistan, taking 132 wickets all told. Abbas then claimed 37 wickets in seven first-class games in the 2017-18 campaign at an average of 14.29 with a haul of 6 for 24 the best of three five-fors. 

He played a key role in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Final of 2017-18, taking 4 for 57 in the first innings as his Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited team emerged victorious.

Abbas returned to the Foxes for the Royal London One-Day Cup fixtures against Northamptonshire Steelbacks and Warwickshire taking three wickets in total, and made his first Specsavers County Championship appearnce in 2019 versus Middlesex at Lord's where he bowled 5 for 103.
