Leicester-born Sam Evans joined the full Leicestershire CCC staff on a summer contract in April 2017.

Evans is a graduate of the club’s flourishing Academy and made his first-class debut for Leicestershire against Northamptonshire CCC having also represented Loughborough MCCU during the 2017 season.

The opening batsman has impressed greatly in his first-class career to date including a terrific 114 for Loughborough MCCU against Northants in just his second innings. The 161-ball knock, which contained 16 fours and three sixes, came as part of a record score for the university.

Evans, who plays for Leicester Ivanhoe in the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League, also showed promise in his innings against Leicestershire at the Uptonsteel County Ground.

Evans had to wait for his chance to impress in the first XI, though, and was finally given his opportunity during the truncated 2020 Bob Willis Trophy campaign.

He opened the batting alongside fellow Loughborough University graduate, Hassan Azad in the fixture against Durham CCC at the Uptonsteel County Ground. He posted 85 in the draw and earned the chance to open the batting for the remaining fixtures in the competition, against Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire respectively.
