Leicester-born opening batsman Sam Evans joined the full Leicestershire CCC staff on a summer contract in April 2017.

Evans is a graduate of the club’s flourishing Academy and made his first-class debut for Leicestershire against Northants having also represented Loughborough MCCU during the 2017 season. 

The 19-year-old has impressed greatly in his first-class career to date including a terrific 114 for Loughborough MCCU against Northants in just his second innings. The 161-ball knock, which contained 16 fours and three sixes, came as part of a record score for the university.

Evans, who plays for Leicester Ivanhoe in the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League, also showed promise in his innings against Leicestershire at the Fischer County Ground. 

The opening batsman is in the second year of his degree and will be available for Leicestershire once his studying is complete for each of his three academic years.
