O'Brien in Ireland World Cup squad
Leicestershire would like to congratulate batsman Niall O’Brien, who has been selected in Ireland’s 15-man World Cup squad in Australia and New Zealand next month.
It will be the third successive ICC 50-Over World Cup that O’Brien has been to and the left-hander has also represented Ireland at four ICC T20 World Cups.
O’Brien has played in 60 ODIs for his country, scoring 1,514 runs at an average of 28.03 in the process. The 33-year-old is part of a squad that has plenty of county experience. Warwickshire’s Will Porterfield leads the side and Niall's brother Kevin, who most recently played for Surrey, is vice captain.
Ireland’s opening match is against the West Indies on Monday, February 16 and they also face group games against United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India and Pakistan.
The squad in full: Porterfield (c), K O’Brien (v/c), N’O’Brien, Balbirnie, Chase, Cusack, Dockrell, Joyce, McBrine, Mooney, Murtagh, Stirling, Thompson, Wilson, Young.
